Choosing an Awning for Your Home
Posted on Monday, August 31st, 2015 at 8:53 pm.You have finally decided to order your residential awning! You are definitely on the right track to having an amazing outdoor space for your home. But your decision process doesn’t end there. You will have to make a few more decisions before sitting outside in the shade. Let’s go over some of them!
Style
When it comes time to choose your home’s awning, one of the decisions you will have to make is the style of your awning. Your awning choices are retractable or stationary awning. But these two styles have more options as well. Retractable awnings come in two different styles: electronic and manual. Electronic awnings are a convenient option for people who want to enjoy the sun but also want some shade on hotter days or for rain protection. While this option is easier to operate, it does require the installer to access electricity. Manual retractable awnings are controlled by a crank handle. These awnings are simple to install and operate. It will take some arm strength to operate the crank, but it is fairly easy to use. These awnings are also cheaper and there is less of a chance of it breaking down than with the electronic model. If you are looking for a permanent solution to the sun’s rays as well as a way to keep your home cooler, a stationary awning is for you. These awnings are either fabric or metal. Metal awnings are extremely durable and can last for many years. Depending on your fabric choice, fabric awnings can allow light to enter a space while keep rain from ruining your party.
Fabrics
Now that we have discussed the style of your new awning, how about we talk about the fun stuff like fabric choices and colors? There are three main types of fabric choices to choose from for your residential awning: vinyl-coated cottons, vinyl, and acrylics. Each of these different fabrics is a good option for your home’s residential awning. Vinyl-coated cotton has been coated to resist fire, water, UV rays, and fungi growth. It also comes with a 3-5 year warranty. Vinyl fabrics come in two different types including laminated and coated. Laminated vinyl is considered the standard fabric while coated vinyl is higher quality. Both fabrics are durable and waterproof. The final fabric choice is acrylic fabrics. These fabrics are durable and repel water. Acrylic fabric comes in a variety of blends such as cotton-polyester, and 100 percent acrylic. Most acrylic fabrics come with a 5-10 year warranty.
These choices will help to customize your new awning to your space. Choose your own style, colors, and fabrics to make your awning perfect for your outdoor space!
