Not a very good one! Doing some basic cleaning and maintenance will go a long way to ensuring the long life of your awnings and keeping your customers wowed. Here’s how to keep your awning graphics clean.
Dust Your Awning Off
You could clean your awning while still on its frame, but take extreme caution and have a partner help you with the ladder, placing it in a safe and stable location, and with anything else you may need. Your first step in cleaning your awning is brushing off any dust and debris with a long handled broom. If you have an extra long handle, you may be able to skip the ladder for this part.
Scrub from Bottom to Top
The next step is scrubbing the awning with a brush. You’ll want to use a mild detergent mixed with warm water to clean the awning. The most important thing to keep in mind – scrub your awning from bottom to top and only scrub enough of the awning as you can keep wet. Cleaning from top to bottom make cause unsightly streaking in your awning, and wet patches that dry prematurely can also affect the appearance of your awning. Also, don’t use a pressure washer to clean your awning – you may end up ripping off the graphics, ruining your beautiful awning!
A Little Protection For Long Life
Protective sprays are available to enhance the life and maintain the vivacity of your awning. These sprays help reduce fading and protect the awning from UV rays of the sun. They also help keep your awning water-proof and help repel stains and soils. Usually, these sprays will last for a season, so you’ll want to apply them at least 3 times a year (spring, summer, and fall).
